Shooting for our Short Film

The National Geocaching Day festivities at Groundspeak Headquarters in Seattle this year include a film festival! My daughter, Madison, and I think it will be a great way to introduce people to the books.

We went out to Jensen Lake Park in Eagan, MN today and shot some video footage for our film. Here are some pics from our adventure today!

Real Magic

Warning: Possible Spoiler Alert for Discovering Magic

The other day I went out to South Valley Park in Inver Grove Heights to reset and check GPS coordinates, and set a few more for the story.

I was at the coordinates for where the girls stop under the Sumac bushes. As I was finishing up there, I decided to set the coordinates for the Tree of Three Seasons which comes later in the book but happens close to this place.

I faced the direction I thought the girls would be facing in the book when a friend points in back of them and shows them where the tree is.

On a whim I turned directly around and looked in back of myself and there it was. In more ways than I could have imagined the Tree of Three Seasons was actually there. Directly in back of where I was standing. Where the girls will be standing when they turn around and discover it in the story.

Here’s an image. You’ll have to read the book to know why it’s so significant!

First Day Setting Waypoints

Madison and I went out to South Valley Park, in Inver Grove Heights, today and got most of the waypoints set for the book!

It was a beautiful day, and we took lots of great pictures for Discovering Magic!

This was the first time I have been back to this park since I was about 12. It was amazingly just as I remembered it! That was a huge relief as most of the book is written referencing these places and I would have had to re-write a ton of it if these places had changed or not been there!

It was so exciting to actually be in the place I have envisioned only in my mind until now.

I had hoped to get out and set these points sooner, but we had a long winter here in Minnesota this year.

Here are a few photos that we took today: (Look here so you don’t spoil finding the waypoints which are included in the book’s gallery page.)
